With fall in the air it’s only natural to notice that the light in your apartment needs some adjusting if you want to keep things light and bright throughout the fall and winter months. With that in mind, we thought we’d share some of our favorite decorating tips with you today to help you choose the best lighting for what’s to come.
Step One:Check out your natural light. To figure out the existing sources of light from Mother Nature, turn off all the lights in your apartment and walk through it (in daylight, of course!). Pay close attention to which windows let the sunshine in and then be sure to clear out any obstacles that may be blocking the sun from shining in.
Step Two: Echo the sunlight. Supplementing the sunlight with the right lamp is a great way to extend what you get naturally. A torchiere floor lamp placed in the back part of a room that receives some daylight can seamlessly fill in where the natural light falls off. You might look for a lamp with a natural motif, one that reminds you of the sun outside. Any lamp with a floral motif incorporated will be a great device to brighten your room and your mood.
Step Three: Find the right lighting style. Is your apartment decor modern? Romantic? Coastal? Artistic? Whatever your favorite flair, your lighting can help reinforce it. Track lighting is a great addition to a loft or other urban space, as are metallic lamps. Fabric shades can be cozy, elegant or streamlined, depending on their color or shape. Choose the vibe you wish to create in your apartment home, and pick lamps to complement your style.

Having an outdoor music festival in Central Texas in August sounds like a totally nutty idea, however Float Fest founder Marcus Federman took the insane and made it possible. This music festival on August 31st beats the heat by adding a three-hour float down the San Marcos River. After you’ve cooled down, head to the nearby festival grounds to see to performances by musical acts, including Bun B, Grouplove and Portugal. The Man. Federman, who says he’s been making annual summer excursions to float the river for 15 years, wanted to have a nature-meets-art experience that many find at the major Tennessee music festival Bonnaroo.

No need to spend a lot of your hard earned dollars this summer to escape those Steamy days of summer. Head to a local swimming hole; Austin is overflowing with options that will turn back time and remind you of those lazy days of summers gone by. Some of our favorites include Barton Springs Pool; it’s situated at the grounds of Zilker Park. It is a must-go-to place in the summer to cool off, with a 68 degree temperature all year round. Hamilton Pool Preserve is the closest thing to an oasis you’ll likely ever see. This swimming hole sits in a natural grotto carved out of limestone, and is complete with a small beach area and a 50-foot waterfall! I almost don’t even want to share this with you, as it’s one of my favorite places on earth. But hey, welcome to Austin- I suppose you have just as much a right to enjoy this gem as I do. It’s Krause Springs and
this family-owned property in Spicewood Springs is what dreams are made of. I’ll keep its best reasons to get-a-way a secret and let you explore it yourself this summer!

When we decided to create our “Stay-cation” theme for this summer, we knew that Austin has endless options for fun in the sun, yet when things heat up, we head out from our apartment in Northwest Austin … to some of the region’s best spots for dining IN! Both locals and visitors enjoy “Austin Eats Food Tour” which is a behind-the-scenes look at some of Austin’s best restaurants. One of our favorite tours is the Eastside option. It takes you to several awesome food trailers, some great brick and mortar restaurants, and a brewery! They offer walking, van, and even electronic bike tours. We highly recommend the electronic bike option, unless it’s triple digit heat, then the AC in the van is just too good to pass up. Prefer to stay in during the day then head out at night? The most famous, well know street in Austin. 6th street (formerly known as Pecan Street) serves as Austin’s heart of entertainment and nightlife scene. The old historical buildings are now used as bars, music venues, cafes, art galleries, etc. If you want to experience Austin’s crazy nightlife, 6th street is the place to go.
