Celebrate Mexican culture and heritage at VIVA México, held September 12 at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center. The celebration features traditional music, dance, food and cultural activities and is a wonderful reflection of Austin's diverse community.
Fantastic Fest — September 17–24
Film enthusiasts should save time for Fantastic Fest, one of the country's premier genre-film festivals. From September 17–24, filmmakers and fans gather in Austin to celebrate horror, science fiction, fantasy, action and other adventurous cinema. Screenings, filmmaker appearances and special events make this a particularly fun choice for movie lovers.
Austin Museum Day — September 20
On September 20, explore Austin’s impressive cultural scene during Austin Museum Day, when participating museums and cultural institutions open their doors with free exhibitions, activities and special programming. It’s a terrific way to discover museums you may not otherwise visit—and a great event for families.
Cotaland Grand Opening — September 26–27
For something completely new, head to the Circuit of The Americas September 26–27 for the grand opening of Cotaland, a new 30-acre racing-themed amusement park. The park features more than 30 rides and attractions, including two major roller coasters, family attractions, dining and the opportunity to experience the COTA racing environment.
