Austin, Texas has emerged as one of the most dynamic craft distilling regions in the United States, with a mix of urban distilleries and nearby Hill Country producers contributing to a rapidly growing spirits culture.

The city’s distilleries are known for innovation, local sourcing, and a strong emphasis on visitor experiences like tastings, tours, and live music. According to tourism sources, Austin and its surrounding areas now host a wide range of distilleries producing whiskey, vodka, gin, sotol, and other specialty spirits – all within a close or reasonable drive from our apartments to rent or lease in Austin, Texas!

For those who appreciate the craft, we have mapped out an idyllic “Tour De Pour” of the top distilleries in Austin, Texas!  Cheers!

At the center of Austin’s distilling scene is Still Austin Whiskey Co., referred to as a “grain-to-glass” producer that sources Texas-grown ingredients and distills, ages, and bottles its whiskey entirely in-house. We recently explored the facility and enjoyed cocktails complete with live music, making it one of our favorite new distillery destinations.

Another major player is Deep Eddy Vodka, known for its widely distributed flavored vodkas. According to the staff on site, its tasting room helped popularize distillery tourism in the region, offering cocktails and tours that showcase its production style.

In the nearby Hill Country, Treaty Oak Distilling operates a large ranch-style distillery producing whiskey and gin, complete with a restaurant and expansive outdoor space. This destination-style model reflects a broader trend in the Austin area, where distilleries double as social and culinary hubs.  If you’re planning a special occasion, check this one out.

One of the most unique producers in the region is Desert Door Sotol Distillery, which specializes in sotol, a desert plant-based spirit native to Texas and northern Mexico. Its tasting room emphasizes regional identity and offers a distinctly Texan alternative to traditional agave spirits. The team was very informative, and we actually learned a lot while sipping on some samples.

Austin is also home to a number of smaller, innovative distilleries. Revolution Spirits produces gin, amaro, and liqueurs with a focus on botanicals and creative flavor profiles. Meanwhile, Crowded Barrel Whiskey Co. has gained attention for its experimental approach to whiskey-making and its connection to the Wizard Academy campus.

Other notable producers that we have investigated include Dripping Springs Distilling, known for vodka and gin crafted with mineral-rich Hill Country water, and one of our favorites, Fierce Whiskers Distillery, a newer entrant focused on bourbon and American whiskey.

Smaller operations like Goodnight Loving Vodka, Planet Rock Vodka Distillery and South Congress Distillery further diversify the local spirits landscape.

It’s also worth noting that some Austin-based brands, such as Tito’s Handmade Vodka, are globally recognized but do not operate traditional public tasting rooms, reflecting the range of business models within the industry.

Overall, Austin’s distillery scene blends creativity, hospitality, and regional identity. Whether in urban tasting rooms or scenic Hill Country ranches, these distilleries emphasize craftsmanship and experience, making the area a leading destination for craft spirits enthusiasts.

Cheers!

Right here at Juniper Springs apartments for rent or lease in Austin, Texas, we look forward to BBQing by the pool, picnics at our beautiful parks, and heading out to experience some of our favorite spring events in Austin.  Earlier this month, we posted a blog about some of the top events for families to enjoy in Austin.  This time, we’re offering more ideas about the things to do outdoors in Austin with springtime in full swing!

To ensure you enjoy spring in Austin, we put together some ideas we think you will enjoy with your friends and family in tow. Need more ideas? Never hesitate to stop by our office for some local advice and insight!

April is peak wildflower season in Central Texas and there are plenty of places to pack a picnic and pause to take a picture or two.

First, hit one of our many Farmer’s Markets that always promise fresh produce, local honey, and specialty breads and baked goods. Then, head to Lady Bird Lake or Zilker Park – the latter of which is ideal for the kiddos with a ride on the Zilker Zephyr Miniature Train.

The weather is also ideal for kayaking or paddle boarding or taking your first dip in one of our many lakes and streams that work their way through Austin’s parks and countrysides.  Speaking of which, for a bit of elevation, take a short hike up Mount Bonnell. It’s one of the highest points in Austin with sweeping views of the Colorado River.  We save this hike for after work to take in the sunsets!

If you have company coming in for Spring Break or just to visit, April is packed with events. Refer back to our earlier blog this month for a full list – then be sure note to miss our favorites: The iconic ABC Kite Fest fills the sky with colorful kites and family-friendly fun. Meanwhile, the Old Settler’s Music Festival brings together bluegrass, folk, and Americana fans for a multi-day celebration.

Beyond festivals, live music spills out from patios, breweries, and iconic venues all over town. Whether it’s an afternoon acoustic set or a lively evening show, there’s always something to enjoy while dining al’ fresco in Austin! Grab tacos from a local food truck, enjoy slow-smoked barbecue, or sip craft cocktails on a rooftop overlooking downtown. We always recommend a stroll down South Congress Avenue that offers a mix of shopping, street eats, and quirky local charm.

From wildflower walks and waterfront adventures to live music and incredible food, April in Austin delivers something for everyone. It’s where you can spend the morning outdoors, the afternoon exploring, and the evening listening to live music under the stars—and that’s what makes living at Juniper Springs community apartments for rent such a perfect place to call “home sweet home!”

Earlier this month we provided you with a list of famous places in and around Austin, Texas where movies and television series have been filmed.

Here’s a self-guided walking tour and driving tour that will take you to the most recognizable filming locations in Austin that were used for movies and TV shows.

DOWNTOWN WALKING FILM TOUR OF AUSTIN (2-3 hours)

Here’s a list of an easy walking tour packed with recognizable locations where films and television series showcase our city within 1.5 miles.

1) Texas State Capitol

Seen in multiple shows, including Walker for establishing government/city shots. There are great dome and grounds photos in this production.

Walk: 15 minutes south on Congress Ave

2) Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge

Frequent skyline/river establishing shots in Walker and other productions. The best angels are from the bridge or the hike-and-bike trail below.

Walk: 10 minutes west toward Auditorium Shores

3) Auditorium Shores at Zilker Park

Portions of A Scanner Darkly and other Austin-set films used these greenbelt and skyline views. Take a break and relax by the water to enjoy a classic Austin backdrop.

Walk or rideshare: 5 minutes to South Congress

4) Continental Club

This live music landmark featured in Boyhood. Grab a drink or catch an afternoon set. For an optional stop for a snack nearby, stop into Home Slice Pizza. It’s not a film set, but a very “Austin movie vibe” for a casual bite.

5) End the walk along South Congress for murals and storefronts often used for background city shots.

DRIVING TOUR OF AUSTIN’S FAMOUS MOVIE AND TV SPOTS (3-4 hours)

1) Top Notch Hamburgers

Featured prominently in Dazed and Confused where they recreated the burger-stand scenes.

Drive: 12 minutes south

2) Baker St. Pub & Grill

Exterior used as “Chotchkie’s” in Office Space. This is a quick stop worthy of an Instagram selfie!

Drive: 15 minutes south

3) Bedichek Middle School

The exterior served as Lee High School in Dazed and Confused. You can visit the school from the street.

Drive: 20 minutes southeast

4) McKinney Falls State Park

Outdoor scenes for Spy Kids and its sequel were filmed here. It’s also a favorite spot for
hiking, taking pics of waterfalls and a perfect picnic stop.

Drive: 20 minutes north

5) Del Valle High School Stadium

Used for football action in Friday Night Lights. Drive-by or quick exterior photos.

Optional evening stop back toward town: Broken Spoke – a beloved Texas dance hall often associated with Friday Night Lights fandom and Austin film culture.

Earlier this month, we offered some of the most romantic things to do in Austin. And there are sooo many options, our family at Juniper Springs apartments for rent in Austin decided to share a few more to ensure you and yours enjoy the month of February to your heart’s content!

Experience a Bird’s Eye View for TWO!

This is one big hint for impressing your date any time or day of the year.  Thanks to the professional pilots at Austin’s helicopter tours, you can see Austin from a  bird’s eye view.  Make this a must-do – for two!  The sights of the city are every reason to save up to spoil the one(s) you love.  Viator travel offers several options and is ready to take you and your Valentine on a trip of a lifetime!

Say “I DO” at Sunset

Over the years, we have written about Austin’s classic spots to see some of the most spectacular sights.  For those who are looking for THE spot to pop the question, let us re-recommend some top spots to see the sun set in Austin:

Mount Bonnell
The Oasis on Lake Travis
Lady Bird Lake
Covert Park
360 Bridge

Get Your Motor (and your heart) Running

Here are several ways to get your heart racing while taking in the sandy and sunny sights through off-road riding adventures in Austin. To get your motor running, sign up and get ready to ride along with one of their certified tour guides through miles of trails, rocky hills, compact dirt roads, and more! Be sure to bring your camera to capture all the Instagramable pics along the way.

Giddy-up!

If horsin’ around seems like something your loved one would love, there are more than enough opportunities to surprise your valentine with an exclusive ‘couples’ horseback riding adventure. We highly recommend you schedule your ride just before the sunsets to paint a perfect picture for a date night out.  For the best of the best in the business, Trip Advisor has some good options for horseback riding tours in Austin to check out.

Seek out the Stars

For a much quieter pace for passionate times together, gather a blanket and your best friend and head out of town to stargaze into the night.  Fuel the fun and romance by packing a dinner-style picnic, complete with candlelight, chocolate and, of course, a bottle of bubbly to toast into the night.

Just Say Spahhh

When it's time to unplug, unwind and try something unconventional, it’s time to reserve some ‘float therapy’ time  or a day at the spa at one of Austin’s award-winning spas.  Ideal for both individuals and couples, this “surreal and almost sci‑fi experience” can be the perfect ending to an adventurous day in the great outdoors. Fortunately for all who live in and around our apartment community in Texas, a fine selection of top spas in Austin offers the perfect escape. Whether your life overflows with family commitments or perhaps too many hours at work, we encourage you to find some ‘me’ time at some of our favorite spas noted below.

Austin’s Fairmont Spa
Milk + honey
Omni Barton Creek

Earlier this month we started to share some of our own top tips for getting organized this year.  There were so many other quick and easy tips that we decided to continue our January Blog on your behalf.

Happy tidying – and don’t forget about rewarding yourself when all is said and done!

Create a Closet Revamp

If your closet has been stressing you out all season long because it’s bursting at the seams, turn decluttering into a game! Our family has done this for years, and honestly, it works! This month, face all your hangers the same way. Every time you wear an item, flip its hanger in the opposite direction.

Embrace the One In, One Out Rule

Whether you are in the closet or cleaning items throughout the house, think about the “one in, one out rule.”  Got a new sweater from Santa?  Great!  Maybe it’s time to get rid of one you haven’t worn in years.  Ditto for shoes, blankets, rugs and even the shades of trendy-past lipstick or those dozen shirts from sports teams of the past.  And here’s the best part, if you keep this theme going throughout the year, think of all the new items you will have to brighten your life, while you donate some of your past favorites to those who need them most!

Write Down Important Dates for the Year

While you are sorting through all those papers, perhaps it’s time to get a good-old-fashioned calendar updated as well.  For those with smartphones, sure, it’s nice to have reminders; yet when there are other family members involved in your busy schedule, a quick glance at that calendar keeps everyone in sync.

Create (and Maintain) a Command Center

This resolution can turn chaos into calm—especially if your household feels more like Grand Central Station than a quiet retreat. A family command center is your mission control: it keeps schedules, keys, backpacks, and notes all in one spot. Pick the busiest area—kitchen, mudroom, or entryway—so everyone’s in the loop. Deck it out with a calendar, a chalkboard for quick notes, a mail sorter, and hooks for grab-and-go essentials. Keep it fresh with weekly updates, and you’ll never again lose track of your keys or miss a doctor’s appointment. It’s organization, but with a dash of fun and teamwork.

Make a “Spoil Me More” List

As you continue to put some TLC into your home sweet home, don’t forget about yourself.  One of the greatest rewards of accomplishing the tasks above is to treat yourself to something FOR yourself.  Think: New sheets. A new pillow.  New towels for the kitchen and bath. Or a fluffy new blanket to keep you warm during our winter months.

Consider Wellness Goals

Now that your home is in good shape, it’s time to do the same for your mind and body.  Throughout Austin, there are MORE than enough fitness clubs to get you in gear or click into the web to find FREE online wellness advice and exercises to suit your personal goals and lifestyle.
